Life Jackets That Keep Your Head Above Water

Different from a buoyancy or an impact vest, the life jacket is designed to keep you afloat and most importantly, your head above the water. The design and head support function means that no matter how you fall into the water, the jacket will float so that your head is upright. So when it comes to the different safety vests, the one thing you need to know is that life jackets are the safest personal flotation devices (PFD).

Life Jackets Have to Be Certified

Jackets that have a 100N certification label are coast guard approved after rigorous testing. The 100N refers to the amount of buoyancy provided, which in this case is a minimum of 10 kg. The higher the “N” number, the more buoyancy the jacket will have. Life jackets for adults or infant life jackets should have the same certification and this can be seen in the product specifications.

Buoyancy vests are another kind of PFD, but they are not specifically designed to keep the head afloat and do not provide as much buoyancy.
