Top Caps
Maximize Your Performance With a BMX Top Cap
The BMX top cap is the screw found at the top of your fork and just above the headset. This little component is often overlooked but is important. It is not only compressing your fork and stem against the headtube of your frame but also holding your headset in the right place to ensure smooth bar rotations.
There are several names for top caps, such as BMX compression bolt, compression cap or BMX fork bolt. All these terms refer to the same thing and are used interchangeably. BMX top caps bolts are usually made from aluminum, ensuring that they don’t add too much weight to your bike.
With all top caps, you need to know whether it is compatible with your fork. Most important is the thread size, which can be found in our product descriptions and specification section.
How to Install and Remove Top Caps
Installing and removing a top cap is a relatively straightforward process. To replace the cap, you will first need to loosen the stem bolts with either a 6 or 8 mm Allen key. Once you have done this, you should be able to simply use the right-sized Allen key to unscrew the old top cap and replace it with the new one. Make sure that the cap is screwed in securely so that your setup feels sturdy.
